The BBC’s Rushdi Abualouf, who is in Khan Younis in southern Gaza, says he understands that tanks travelled at least two kilometres deep, close to the sea in north-west Gaza.
He adds that people in northern Gaza are experiencing the biggest ever strikes to have hit the territory.
